My favorite radio morning show is the Rick and Bubba Show. It is found locally on 1510 am, but syndicated throughout the nation on mainstream stations. The reason I love this show is the fact that they are unashamedly believers of Christ. They talk about it openly on the air. I love that about them. This past Saturday, Rick was away speaking at a youth event and his wife Sherry was at home with the kids. Sherry sat the kids down to watch a movie and had the doors locked, then went to take a shower. When she got out of the shower, she found a door open and went outside and found their 3 yr. old son in the family pool. The doctors worked on him and there was nothing that could be done. He passed away. The family is unbelievably strong, even though they are in agony. When Rick got to the hospital, he knew that it was going to be the toughest thing he had ever faced in his life. His first words out of the car were so powerful. He reflected back on the origin of the great hymn and said, “It is well with my soul”. I can’t imagine having that much strength. Having a three year old blond haired boy myself, I would be completely distraught. Please pray for this family, pray that the God uses a tragedy to bring people closer to him. Earlier in the weekend, I had learned that someone that I knew had a cancerous tumor removed and the cancer may have spread to other parts of his body. He is only 27 years old, a newlywed and he and his wife were so excited to have kids. There is a possibility that may never happen.
God is not always one to let you in on the future. Sometimes you get frustrated and flat out mad at God that he allows this little boy to die or this couple to not have children. Yet God allows people to have multiple kids, that probably shouldn’t have kids in the first place. His ways cannot be measured or fathomed. He tells us that His plan is greater than ours. His timing is perfect and we are not promised the next seconds that we live. We have now and we have to take advantage of that time to love our kids and teach them the right way. We have now to live the great commission, to not get caught up in our own desires, but hitch our wagons to God and let him lead. This week, let him lead your life and love on your kids as much as you can.
