Enriching our Marriage September 25, 2007

Like most Christians in the world, I desire for my household to be the spiritual epicenter of my family.  It should be where the teachings of Jesus should be reinforced the most.  No matter how hard we try sometimes, this journey is still hard.  The everyday chaos of our lives creeps into the door of our home and takes a look around and tries to abolish any hope of joy or hope.  We can very easily get in the routine of life as well and you just see your spouse in passing.  When this chaos creeps in, we sometimes can feel yourself drifting away from each other and before you know it the chaos wins and you drown.  Don’t let this happen, you have smack yourself in the face and wake up.  Sometimes your wife has to smack you in the face.  I’m not condoning violence, I am only speaking figuratively, but you know what I mean.

This weekend you have a tremendous opportunity for a fresh perspective, a new start with your spouse.  We will be attending the Holy Homes Marriage Conference on Sunday at Shelbyville First Baptist Church.  This one day seminar will be led by Clay and Renee Crosse.  Clay has been a contemporary christian singer for years and he has a tremendous testimony.  He was mired in sin and he was delivered and their marriage was reconciled.  Through this event, their marriage and ministry was strengthened.  They are currently traveling the country and speaking about their trials and they give practical advice of how to keep the covenant that all of us has committed to.  Please come with us this weekend, whether you think you need it or not.  There will never come a time when we don’t need more of God in our marriage.  For more info on Clay and Renee’s Ministry you can click here.

Tough Sayings of Jesus September 19, 2007

Don’t forget tonight we begin our journey through the Tough Sayings of Jesus.  Michael Kelley does a wonderful job with this new study and you will love it.  I will warn you though, some of content is shocking.  When you think about the life of Christ, it was pretty shocking within itself.  We will explore some topics that may be tough to swallow and are at times difficult to wrap our mind around.  This study will stir up conversation and hopefully will stir your heart to a greater understanding of Jesus.  This study will be 4 weeks long and you can grab a book at the Lifeway in the Boro.  There will be video all four weeks.  I look forward to this study and I hope to see you tonight at 6:01 p.m.  Same bat channel, same bat time.  For a video clip click here.

Being the Hands and Feet September 16, 2007

Last Wednesday we began a new initiative to be the hands and feet of Christ in our community and beyond.  As many of you know we are making a commitment to assist April and Brandon Smith in their quest to adopt a child from Vietnam.  We have already had a benefit car wash that raised several hundred dollars and we are open to other ideas for the future as well.  If you haven’t heard, they are officially on the waiting list!!  Which is very exciting.  We are also going to partner with World Vision and adopt a child of our own.  This will be a child that we will correspond with and support financially.  We will hopefully select our child this coming Wednesday.  Another way that we will be the hands and feet locally is through the domestic women’s home.  We will be supplying welcome baskets for individual rooms at the home.  We will be stocking these items on an ongoing basis and provide these baskets when needed.  Sam Gannon is heading these efforts over at the Domestic Women’s Home.  He has also developed a video that talks about the great need for help in this area and I will hopefully be posting the video on our blog.  Blood:Water Mission is another unique way of helping the cause of Christ.  This is an organization that provides clean drinking water to the world, especially in Africa.  1 Billion children in the world go without clean drinking water.  That is a shocking statistic.  We need to do something about it.  Just 1 dollar can provide a child in Africa clean drinking water for one year.  Let’s see how many children we give clean water to this year.  Think about the ministry everytime you put a clean sip of water to your mouth.  We are so blessed and have been given so much, this is the least we can do to give back.  This is what God requires of us.
